"All-Day" heat

Tired of running out of heat before lunch? Chaval gloves keep your hands toasty warm up to 3 times longer than any other brand. And they are the only heated gloves effective in sub-zero °F temperatures.

These gloves think, so you don’t have to

Other brands require YOU to regulate the heat in your gloves, continuously, for as long as you have them on. Too hot? Turn it down. Too cold? Turn it up. Worried about running out of power? Turn it off. Chaval alphaHEAT™ 2.0 technology thinks for you, automatically adjusting through infinite levels of heat to keep your hands perfectly warm. Just push the “on” button and enjoy your day thinking about nothing but the great outdoors.

No wires

Wires = Low-Tech. Instead of wires, alphaHEAT™ 2.0 technology uses flat, flexible, conductive traces to transmit power inside the glove, similar to technology used in cell phones and computer chips.

Built-in glove drying technology

Our new, patent pending, activeDRY™ technology is built into our charging system and will simultaneously recharge and dry the interior of your gloves, reducing normal drying time by up to 50%. Quickening the drying process not only ensures your optimal comfort with every wear, but will also help prevent unpleasant odor and bacteria growth.

Charging process that’s cave-man simple

To charge heated gloves, other brands require minor surgery: extract the batteries, disconnect them, connect them to a charging device, then reconnect and reinsert them into each glove. Shouldn’t charging your gloves be as easy as charging your cell phone? We think so.

Simply put, it’s the best

We keep our selling cost low by selling exclusively online. This enables us to incorporate technologies and materials of the highest quality that other manufacturers cannot afford without compromising their profit margins.

Never again will your outdoor winter adventures end abruptly because of frigid fingers, even in the most extreme conditions.

Intelligent Heat

This technology thinks, so you don’t have to. alphaHEAT™ 2.0 is the only available solution that works in harmony with your body to regulate the production of heat within each individual finger, feeding heat to frosty fingers, and conserving power after hands warm up. alphaHEAT™ 2.0 uses a proprietary, paper-thin, nanotech polymer film that automatically regulates its own temperature. As your hands get cold, the film gets denser, increasing its electrical conductivity. This change pulls power from a battery to deliver heat to the film and the hands. As your hands get warm, the heat reduces the film’s conductivity which reduces power draw.

The Longest Operating Time

alphaHEAT™ 2.0’s localized heat regulation conserves energy use so that a comfortable, toasty temperature can be maintained up to 3 times longer than all other glove brands and technologies. Short operating time is a significant and universal problem with other brands since much of their stored power is used for purposes other than producing heat. The simplicity of the alphaHEAT™ 2.0 design resolves this because it does not require the thermostats and other electronic components that sap power and produce bulk. Other technologies waste upwards of 50% of stored power to drive these extraneous components. Compare this to alphaHEAT™ 2.0 technology that uses virtually all stored power to produce heat.

No Hassle

alphaHEAT™ 2.0 strips away the crude complexity of other heating technologies to achieve a pure, simple and intuitive user interface. Other technologies require you to constantly tinker with the temperature control to keep your hands warm and conserve power. And charging the batteries requires you to suffer through a long, intrusive and cumbersome battery extraction process. Chaval Response XRT gloves are as easy to charge as your cell phone. And they self-regulate, so all you have to do is push the “on” button and enjoy the great outdoors. No hassle and worry-free.

Light and Flexible

alphaHEAT™ 2.0 technology is light, ultra-thin, and flexible, so it virtually disappears inside the glove. Enjoy NO restrictions to any dynamic movement of the hand.

Non-Intrusive Heating

Wires = Low-Tech. alphaHEAT™ technology uses flat, flexible, conductive traces to transmit power inside the glove. This is an optimized solution generally seen in highly engineered products such as cell phones and computer chips to maximize the use of available space. Bulky wires take up space which detracts from the experience and comfort of non-intrusive heating. You shouldn’t feel the electrical components, batteries or wires when you put on your gloves. You shouldn’t feel anything but heat.

Built-in glove drying technology

For many skiers, the accumulation of some moisture within the glove is commonplace. Until now, the only choices were to either live with the resulting discomfort and unpleasant odor, or purchase a bulky table-top glove drying system. Chaval's tradition of innovation and market firsts continues with our new, patent pending, activeDRY™ technology. activeDRY™ is built into our charging system and will simultaneously recharge and dry your Chaval gloves, reducing normal drying time by up to 50%. Reducing drying time not only ensures optimal comfort with every use, but will also help prevent unpleasant odor and bacteria growth. Just attach the gloves to the activeDRY™ charger and your gloves will simultaneously charge, heat and dry with absolutely no increase in recharge time.

Chaval heated gloves are sold exclusively on this website
Chaval alphaHEAT™ technology maintains steady comfortable warmth without a bulky, breakable, and power-hungry thermostatic system. When a finger gets cold, so does a proprietary polymer layer imbedded in the fabric of the finger, which automatically increases the polymer’s conductivity and its production of heat. As your cold finger warms to a comfortable temperature, alphaHEAT™ rapidly redirects power to heat other cooler parts of your hand. This localized micro-regulation minimizes energy use so that a comfortable, toasty temperature can be maintained for a very long time.
For many skiers, the accumulation of some moisture within the glove is commonplace. Until now, the only choices were to either live with the resulting discomfort and unpleasant odor, or purchase a bulky table-top glove drying system. Chaval's tradition of innovation and market firsts continues with our new activeDRY™ technology. activeDRY™ is built into our charging system and will simultaneously recharge and dry your Chaval gloves, reducing normal drying time by up to 50%. Reducing drying time not only ensures optimal comfort with every use, but will also help prevent unpleasant odor and bacteria growth. Just attach the gloves to the activeDRY™ charger and your gloves will simultaneously charge, heat and dry with absolutely no increase in recharge time.
Simply use the provided charger to recharge Chaval heated gloves through any common electrical outlet. Refer to the included Instructions For Use for a simple step-by-step process.
A full charging of the gloves takes 5-7 hours. Once the gloves have been fully charged, the charge indicator lights on the charger will turn green.

We've designed Chaval gloves to be exceptionally tough to stand up to the rigors of outdoor occupations and sports.
The alphaHEAT™ technology in Chaval gloves will provide up to 6 hours of continuous heat per charge, depending on environmental conditions and the user’s anatomy. If you need more than 6 hours of heat, simply turn your gloves off when possible to conserve power for when it is needed.
Yes. The advanced materials used in Chaval gloves are engineered to preserve water vapor transport out of the gloves while maintaining a waterproof barrier.
Cleaning and properly treating your gloves will help to ensure they have a long useful life. We recommend using SNO-SEAL products.

  • Take extra care to follow our directions for application. Click on the "LEATHER CARE AND TREATMENT" link in the footer of this website to access them.
  • Be careful when handling your outdoor gear as hard, sharp edges and corners are the most likely causes of damage to your gloves.
WARNING: Applying Sno-Seal to the suede areas of the glove is not recommended. Sno-Seal will change the texture and absorbency of the suede, decreasing its effectiveness as an absorbent wipe.
WARNING: Do not to apply any external heat. Using an external heat source can permanently damage the heating system inside your Chaval gloves and possibly render your gloves unsafe for use.
Contact us at customerservice@ChavalUSA.com. We can provide guidance to help ensure your gloves are safe for use or to arrange for repairs.
If the gloves are immersed in water, immediately deactivate them, drain the water and thoroughly dry. Drying temperature must not exceed 60 °C (140 °F). Do not dry Chaval gloves on a heater or in a clothes dryer.
  • Keep your gloves out of the sun or a hot car (including the glove box)! Heat will degrade the performance of the battery system the most.
  • Store them in a cool, dry room (from 5 °C [41 °F] to 20 °C[68 °F]). Proper storage of your gloves maximizes battery performance and durability.
  • Do not store your gloves fully discharged. If discharged, charge for about 3 hours before storage.
  • In case of long-term storage, recharge your gloves every 6 months for about 3 hours.
  • Do not leave your gloves connected to the charging system for extended periods of time.
  • Store and transport your gloves with the charging and switch connectors disconnected from one another to ensure the gloves are not activated and the batteries not unintentionally drained.
If you feel the battery system has been damaged or performance has degraded over time and you would like to continue using the gloves, Chaval Outdoor will replace the battery system for a fee. Please contact Chaval Outdoor to arrange for a battery system replacement*.
*It is important to note that there are no user-replaceable parts within your Chaval heated glove. Any work on the battery or heating system within your Chaval heated gloves must only be performed by Chaval Outdoor.
We recycle the lithium based energy source within the Chaval gloves at no charge to keep lithium out of the environment. When you're done with the gloves or want the battery system replaced, just send them back to us and we'll take care of it. You can find our address and more information at our Contact Us page.

Our Commitment

One driving principle: Optimize User Experience

When developing new products, there is one common principle that all successful technology companies strive for: optimize user experience. A total commitment to this principle yields high quality products, stimulates innovation and ensures customer satisfaction. Those that lose their focus do not survive. This single principle drives Chaval. It is why we use the highest quality materials in our designs. It is why we developed alphaHEAT™, the most advanced apparel heating technology in the world.

The antithesis of “optimize user experience” is “optimize user perception”, which unfortunately seems to be the path many large conglomerate brands choose to follow, continuously rotating colors, material finishes and marketing campaigns to push out what is basically the same product year after year. Efforts to innovate typically involve searching overseas for some new but cheap and ineffective material or technology and hyping it with a fresh name and marketing swag. The bottom line is that these perceived innovations don't enhance your outdoors experience in any significant way.

Chaval is a genuine high-technology apparel company, founded by engineers and dedicated to creating life-impacting innovations that will truly enhance your outdoors experience. Our innovations are designed and built at our headquarters on Bainbridge Island near Seattle. They are tested doing what we love the most - climbing, mountaineering and skiing in the North Cascades. Mount Chaval represents the rugged elegance of our designs. Its stark beauty is surrounded by the world class, remote, alpine environment that our products are built to operate and excel in.

Our alphaHEAT™ technology can be adapted to almost any apparel product, so stay tuned for new product releases!

Our Open Invitation To All Competitors

The Response-XRT significantly outperforms all other battery-heated ski gloves

Other heated ski glove brands require the user to select a low, medium or high heat setting. These brands have adopted a very similar advertising message to exaggerate the performance capabilities of their gloves, stating very generally that their gloves will provide up to 6, 10, even 20 hours of heat. But what they often do not state is that on the High setting, the heat lasts only 1 to 2 hours. So, on a reasonably cold day on the mountain, your heat will fade out long before lunch.

Check it out for yourself. Do an online search for "Heated Ski Glove 2014", click on any brand or retail site link, read the obscure performance statement (such as "Comfortable warmth for up to 12 hours on a single charge"), then read the customer reviews expressing frustration after 2 hours of skiing.

The Response-XRT with our patented alphaHEAT 2.0™ technology will keep hands warm in freezing weather at least 2 times, and up to 3 times longer than any other brand, and it is the only heated glove effective in SUB-ZERO °F temperatures.

To prove our sincerity, we invite any other internal battery-heated glove brand to a side-by-side performance evaluation of their product and the Response-XRT. This evaluation must be performed by a professional and neutral company, and conducted in genuinely cold weather (0 deg F or lower), the results of which will be distributed to media outlets and made openly available for public review on the Chaval website and/or Facebook page.

This open invitation is being widely distributed to online media outlets.

Soldiers to Summits

We are proud and very excited to support Soldiers to Summits - a nonprofit organization that empowers soldiers and veterans to break through barriers, find their inner purpose and contribute their very best to the world.  They use mountains as a metaphor to help participants reconnect with their ability to set and achieve ambitious goals.

Soldiers to Summits

Chaval Outdoor will be providing heated gloves to soldiers and veterans participating in S2S expeditions that suffer cold hands due to injuries that have resulted in compromised circulation or other abnormal physiological condition.

Leather Glove Care & Treatment

Leather is very well-suited for ski gloves because of its many ideal natural properties. It is resistant to wear and tear, is breathable and contains natural air pockets in the fiber structure that provide good insulating qualities. With proper care, leather can stay in great condition for a lifetime. But be careful of the advice you may receive. Some of the more common myths concerning leather care are to use sunscreen (which does not protect the leather from effects of sunlight), butter (stains), olive oil (too much fat content) and car polish (dries out leather). Please use products specifically developed for leather care.

There are many leather care brands and products in the market. Many of these products have been around for over a century, initially developed to keep leather boots in good shape and water resistant during mountaineering expeditions. Collonil and Tierowa are two such brands, both from Germany and used for many of the major expeditions of the early 20th century. Popular domestic brands include Sno-Seal, Obenauf's and Nikwax.

The most commonly used leather products for gloves are leather cleaners, leather conditioners and leather waterproofing treatments.

Here are a few tips to get you started

Only use high quality treatments and carefully follow the provided instructions for use.
Avoid treatments that can impact the breathability of the leather. Many silicone based products can greatly impact the breathability of leather because silicone can clog leather’s natural pores.
Avoid aerosol sprays. They are a less effective applicator for leather treatment and contain propellants that are typically harmful to the environment.
When using a leather cleaner (like a leather cleaning foam), apply it to a cloth or sponge first, then gently massage it in. A leather eraser may help to clean more resistant stains or spots. Follow this with an application of waterproofing treatment.
Waterproofing treatments with natural ingredients can be very effective when applied properly. Beeswax and carnauba wax have been used to waterproof leather since the late 1800s.
Many products suitable for smooth leather are not suitable for suede. For the treatment of suede, be careful to use product specifically for this type of leather.

Application Tips for SNO-SEAL Original Beeswax Waterproofing for Leather

The basic instructions for Sno-Seal are quite simple and after a few applications you will develop your own preferences and techniques. These instructions are for those who want to understand how it works and get great results on the first try.

The magic of Sno-Seal is that AFTER application it has a melt point of 155 F so that even if exposed to excessive heat, the treatment does not migrate through the leather. It STAYS in the top surface of the leather, where it is needed for waterproofness, so frequent reapplication is not required.

Application is only possible due to a temporary solvent that lowers the melt point to 105F, then evaporates completely. This is why Sno-Seal hardens during storage if the container is not re-sealed.

After your Chaval gloves have been activated, are generating heat and are warm, Sno-Seal applied to the leather will melt and more easily penetrate the leather’s surface.  There is a subtle, but very important difference between putting Sno-Seal on leather and then heating it, vs. putting it on leather that is already warm.  Solvents evaporate towards a source of heat.  So if Sno-Seal is applied to your Chaval gloves after the heating system has been running, the solvent evaporates into the warm glove leather, drawing the wax in with it.

WARNING: Do not to apply any external heat.  Using an external heat source can permanently damage the heating system inside your Chaval gloves and possibly render your gloves unsafe for use.

Activate the heating system in your Chaval gloves and allow them to sit undisturbed for 1-2 hours.  Now apply Sno-Seal to each glove in turn. By the time you get back to the first glove, it will have a dull appearance indicating that all of the wax was absorbed.  Add more Sno-Seal to each glove in the same order.  When you get back to the first you may find areas that are shiny, indication that there is more wax than the leather could absorb.  Add a bit more Sno-Seal to the dull areas of each glove until they remain shiny for a few minutes.  This will leave a little excess on the surface.  This is ideal for maximum resistance to abrasion from snow.  If a more finished look is desired you can buff off the excess with a towel.

WARNING: Applying Sno-Seal to the suede areas of the glove is not recommended.  Sno-Seal will change the texture and absorbency of the suede, decreasing its effectiveness as an absorbent wipe.
